Parody Song Praise from the Subject Himself

I received this lovely thank-you note from “Richard T.,” the subject of one of my parody songs. The UNK was commissioned by his niece, Kairsten.

Marilyn,
This is [The UNK]
I wanted to THANK YOU so very much for the song and, particularly the words/verse!
I have enjoyed and shared them with many.
I have been recovering from a severe health crisis…..Kairsten came and helped Suzie when I came home.
We are looking forward to her brother’s family and her family visiting the ranch this Thanksgiving.
It has given joy, fun and happiness to me and others in my recovery (-:
Again, THANK YOU!
If you’re interested in what we do at the ranch go to YouTube and search “Blue Mountain Peak Ranch”.

Memorial Service Testimonial from Mike and Heidi

Dear Marilyn,

We just wanted to thank you again for supporting us at the memorial service for Heidi’s mother. Your music absolutely elevated the event, as we knew it would, but your responsiveness and communication truly put us at ease during the planning process.

Even though we were in flux for a little while as we figured everything out, you were patient with us, extremely kind, and very flexible. Not only did you provide the perfect music for our slide show, you also played the ideal ambient music for the reception after the service- a mix of music that complemented the atmosphere while remaining unobtrusive and fitting for the wide age range of attendees.

And of course, your vocal performance and playing of “Amazing Grace” during the program was wonderful as well.

We should let you know that we’ve shared your information with others who have events coming up, along with a couple of assisted-living and senior-care facilities where we think residents would be well served by an uplifting performer like you.

Thank you again, Marilyn. It’s rare to find someone these days who makes the tough moments in life easier, but you did exactly that. And we’ll be forever grateful.

Best,

Mike and Heidi Plaster

Kate Daniel’s Interview with Marilyn on Warm 109

Show notes from Kate Daniel’s “Inspiring Women” program on Warm 109, September 6, 2026

Marilyn Milano is a Seattle-based vocalist/pianist and can easily be called an animal advocate.  Pets are often considered a family member, bringing comfort and companionship to all ages. Their lifespan is much shorter than ours, and so we will definitely outlive them. Marilyn tells us of her loss of eleven pups over the years; it’s a challenge each time, and yet most of us decide to return and bring another sweet creature into our lives. It’s also important to grieve the loss, and there is support for when it occurs – it’s beneficial to reach out.

Join me at the WAC in April

I’ve really enjoyed keeping busy playing at a variety of senior living establishments this past month, and that will continue. I will also be adding something new in April–Friday nights at the Washington Athletic Club from 5pm-8pm, in Torchy’s restaurant during dinner. You’ll hear music from Ed Sheeran, Elton John, Adele, Leon Russell, standards, oldies and more. Please join me if you are a member, and/or tell your friends who are members to stop in and check out Friday night music at the WAC!

I Love to Play for Senior Homes and Special Events

I’ve always loved playing for senior homes. Did you know I have actually done weddings and special events as well? If you are planning a spring wedding or event let’s talk.  My range of music goes all the way from the likes of Ed Sheeran and Adele to oldies from Sinatra, Burt Bacharach, and musicals. Of course I tailor the presentation to the event. Contact me and we can discuss all the details.

We can ALL do this one thing to save animals’ lives!

I have always been moved by the plight of animals –rescued, abused, stray, lab animals, farm animals, and yet as one ordinary person, I’ve never felt that what I could do amounted to much. When I began my CD project several years ago, my hope was that it would help raise money for shelters and rescue groups and therefore help save lives. While a little of that has happened, it didn’t happen at the level I’d hoped for. So in 2016 when I had the opportunity to do a radio show about rescue, loss and love (Love Has Many Faces, heard Tuesdays on 1150 KKNW at 9 am PST) I also had a vision of getting the word out about various rescues, along with products and services that help animals and their people. And that has been ticking along ok. My motto has been “everyone just do SOMETHING”. Use your talents, time, donations as you can, or just forward an e mail if that’s all you can do.

But I have stumbled upon something that is simple, and yet so vital….and that is the issue of pet suffocation. It is tragic, but it is avoidable. If EVERYONE will just communicate this to one or two people in their lives we can spread the word. PETS ARE DYING because they are suffocating in snack bags. Yes, chip bags, cracker bags, dog treat bags. Now I’ve been an animal advocate for over 30 years but until about 2 years ago I’d never heard of this sad phenomenon. Prevent Pet Suffocation is an organization that was started in 2011 when the founder’s beloved dog suffocated in a chip bag. It can happen while you’re at home, in another room. It can happen if you leave the house and your dog or cat gets into the trash. It is so sad to read the stories on the preventpetsuffocation.com website. But guess what? The fix is simple. Really simple. Don’t leave snack bags out. Put your snacks in bowls when you serve. Make sure your trash is secured. When you’re done with said snack bags, cut the bottoms off before throwing them out so if your pet or a neighbor pet still happens to get into the trash, this danger is removed.

We might feel like our efforts are a drop in the bucket when looking at the millions of pets that need help every year. Of course making the effort we’re able to make at our own level is still important. As the old motto goes, saving one dog may not change the world, but the world will change for that one dog. But in the meantime, let’s just send an e mail, post something on FB, have a conversation with an animal lover. That’s it. What if everyone took 3 minutes, and sent this link to a few pet parents they know. www.preventpetsuffocation.com Let’s do this–we can start saving lives RIGHT NOW by simply sharing information. Will you help?
